USA quintet bring balance to USA’s straight-set win over Korea

 

USA players made a great effort on offence and defence in their straight-set win over Korea in the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Grand Champions Cup in Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo, Japan, September 6, 2017 – Rachel Adams, Lauren Gibbemeyer, Jordan Larson, Andrea Drews and Kimberly Hill gave USA balance to beat Korea 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-16) in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Grand Champions Cup at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Adams, Gibbemeyer, Larson each scored 12 points, while Drews and Hill added 11 apiece to give USA its first victory in the 2017 edition. Lee Jaeyong was the lone double-digit scorer for Korea with 15 markers.

World Grand Champions Cup – Match Statistics by Teams

USA avoided back-to-back World Grand Champions Cup losses – a record they have sustained since their last two at the 2001 edition. The victory also gave USA the 2-1 edge against Korea in their head-to-head encounters in the World Grand Champions Cup.

The USA starters performed with great balance on offence and defence throughout the match, which resulted to an almost uniform point contribution from their top five scorers. Adams had an intimidating presence at the net as she deflected four Korean attacks. Korea had some great moments in the match, but not enough to overcome USA’s powerful performance.
