USA and Brazil face to face in direct duel for Grand Champions Cup silver

Lausanne, Switzerland, September 9, 2017 – One match is bound to decide who wins the silver medals at the 2017 FIVB Women's World Grand Champions Cup in Japan. As USA and Brazil meet each other on the last competition day in Nagoya, the winner of their encounter will end up runner-up to the new champs from China. Sunday’s game between the two teams will be their fourth encounter in the history of the World Grand Champions Cup.

Head-to-Head
• USA and Brazil have met three times at the World Grand Champions Cup. All three matches were won by Brazil. 
• In 2001, Brazil prevailed after five sets, but in both 2005 and 2013, they claimed straight-set victories.
• They most recently met at the 2017 World Grand Prix. Brazil won 3-1 in Group 1. 
• In 2016, these teams played the World Grand Prix final in which Brazil won in five sets.

USA
• USA have won their last three matches at the Grand Champions Cup after losing their first, against China, who have won the tournament.
• In 2013, USA won their last four matches after losing the first against Brazil, the winners of the 2013 tournament.
• USA won their last two matches in five sets. They have never played three five setters in a row at the Grand Champions Cup.
• Against Japan, USA scored 113 points, most in the competition since Italy scored 116 on 11 November 2009 against Korea (won 116-106). 

Brazil
• Brazil can no longer win the 2017 World Grand Champions Cup.
• Brazil came into the 2017 World Grand Champions Cup as title holders (2013) and as winners of the 2017 World Grand Prix and the South American Championship.
• They can lose three matches in a single edition of the Grand Champions Cup for the second time after 2001. They finished fourth in 2001, their worst rank at the Grand Champions Cup ever.
• Tandara Caixeta is Brazil's highest scoring player, 81 points.
• Ana Beatriz Correa and Ana Carolina Da Silva have each scored 15 points with stuff blocks.
