Tandara’s 28 powers Brazil’s four-set triumph over Russia

 

Tandara Caixeta led Brazil to a four-set win over Russia with 28 points

Tokyo, Japan, September 5, 2017 – Tandara Caixeta scored 28 points to help Brazil in their 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 25-12) win over Russia in the opening match of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Grand Champions Cup at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Tandara showed a great all-around game with 20 attacks, four blocks and four aces, then Gabriela Guimaraes and Ana Beatriz Correa scored 14 points apiece for Brazil. The South Americans had a commendable performance with 18 blocks, including Ana Carolina Da Silva’s six and Ana Beatriz’s five. Nataliya Goncharova and Tatiana Kosheleva ran Russia’s offence with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Brazil are on a roll after winning this year’s FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix as they opened their World Grand Champions Cup campaign with a win that will help them in their quest for their third gold medal in the history of the tournament.

Tandara got Brazil off to a good start with a 25-17 opening set win, but Kosheleva’s entry to Russia’s starting line-up helped them to break even at 25-23. Brazil gained a 2-1 set edge on a terrific 25-23 come-from-behind win as they imposed solid defence on Kosheleva and Goncharova. Russia’s game declined, while Brazil employed well-organised plays to win set and match 25-12.
