Korea



Korea take part in the FIVB Women’s World Grand Champions Cup for the fifth time this year, having been absent only from the inaugural edition in 1993 and the latest 2013 competition. They have yet to win a medal, their best finish being fifth in 2009.Korea have participated in all the Olympic tournaments except Moscow 1980 and Barcelona 1992. They twice came close to a medal, losing the bronze medal matches in Munich 1972 to North Korea 3-0 and in London 2012 to Japan also 3-0. At the FIVB World Championships Korea won bronze medals in 1967 and 1974 but have not been on the podium since. They failed to qualify in the latest edition of 2014. Korea have also won bronze medals in the first two editions of the FIVB World Cup in 1973 and 1977. At continental level they have never won the Asian Championship (7 silver and 8 bronze), but have take gold twice (1994 and 2014) at the Asian Games.
