Tokyo, Japan, September 5, 2017 - To mark the beginning of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Grand Champions Cup in Japan, FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° visited the Japanese Volleyball Federation (JVA) to discuss future partnerships and hosting opportunities at their Board of Administration meeting earlier today.
With the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games just three years away, both the JVA and President Graça were enthusiastic to ensure a passion for volleyball and beach volleyball spread throughout the country.
“Volleyball and beach volleyball have both been incredibly successful over the last two Olympic cycles,” President Graça said. “Last year, at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, volleyball was the most televised sport and we are hopeful that, as the sport continues to grow all over the world, we will see similar results in Tokyo.”
During his time with the JVA, President Graça discussed the FIVB’s new mentality, enhancing sports presentation and improving fan experience by bringing them closer to the athletes. The JVA Board of Administration unanimously approved all the ideas and suggestions presented by the FIVB, including the importance of developing beach volleyball in the country, as well as hosting future FIVB events in the run up to Tokyo 2020.
President Graça added: “It was a great pleasure to see that the JVA is fully embracing the FIVB vision, even showing off their best fan participation moves!”
Following the meeting, President Graça also sat down with both the President and General Manager of Mikasa, the FIVB’s official ball supplier, as well as Kim Yeon-Koung, a South Korean volleyball player and member of the FIVB’s Athletes’ Commission.
